4 Teens Arrested For Attempted Carjacking: Police
A 5th teen was with the group, but they were released to their guardians, police said. Three of the arrested teens are 18; the 4th is 17.

PORTLAND, OR — Five teens were allegedly involved in an attempted carjacking in Northeast Portland Thursday night. Four of the five were later arrested. The remaining teen, a minor, was released to guardians.
Portland police arrested 18-year-olds Jayonn Samuel Howard, Davion Dmariay Howard, and Evelyn Nikalae Brown as well as one 17-year-old boy. Brown and the Howards were taken to Multnomah County Jail. The 17-year-old was taken to the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Home. All four are being held on robbery and assault charges.



According to police officials, officers with the Portland Police Bureau's North Precinct were dispatched just after 5:30 p.m. June 28, after receiving a report of an attempted carjacking near Northeast 73rd Avenue and Northeast Prescott Street.

The victims of the attempted carjacking told officers one of the arrested teens pulled a gun, assaulted the driver, and fired the weapon before abandoning the effort and fleeing in a black Ford Fusion.
The victims also reportedly drove away from the area where the attempted carjacking occurred before meeting up with responding police.

In the car, officers found evidence of gunfire. The driver sustained minor injuries but did not require a trip to hospital.
Police across the city spent the next two hours searching for the Ford Fusion, which they ultimately located in the 14700-block of Southeast Stark Street just after 8 p.m.
The officer who spotted the Ford Fusion initiated a traffic stop and pulled over the teens, who reportedly complied and were subsequently arrested without further incident. In the car, police reportedly found the weapon used in the alleged carjacking attempt.
