7 DUII Arrests On Super Bowl Sunday: Portland Police

PORTLAND, OR — A tri-agency law enforcement mission to curb dangerous and impaired driving Super Bowl Sunday resulted in more than 10 arrests and the distribution of more than 140 citations and 40 warnings in Portland.

Portland Police Bureau, Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, and Oregon State Police law enforcement officials together kept an eye out for suspected drunk drivers leaving any one of the myriad Super Bowl parties happening at bars, restaurants, and homes in Portland between 4 p.m. Feb. 4 and 2 a.m. Feb. 5. The mission was conducted as part of an interagency commitment to keeping Portland's city streets safe and "eventually eliminating traffic fatalities as part of Vision Zero," officials said.

Vision Zero is the city of Portland's traffic initiative to make the city's streets safer for all who use them by collecting data and working toward eliminating deaths and serious injuries caused by traffic-related accidents by 2025.

On Sunday, traffic patrols issued 141 citations and 41 warnings for various violations, officials said, adding seven people were arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicants, three for reckless driving, two for hit and run, and one for driving while suspended.

Additionally, community members can also support zero tolerance for impaired driving by reporting suspected impaired drivers to 911 dispatchers.
