Accused Burglar Record Shows More Than 30 Arrests

Melvin Lee Tillman, 63, was arrested Tuesday in connection with at least 3 recent burglaries.

PORTLAND, OR — Police on Tuesday arrested and released a man suspected of several recent burglaries in Portland — a man who already has no fewer than 32 arrests on his record for burglaries and thefts in Multnomah County since 1992.

Melvin Lee Tillman, 63, was released from Multnomah County Jail on his own recognizance April 24. He is currently charged with burglary, theft, and criminal mischief.

Portland police identified Tillman as a suspect in three Northwest Portland burglaries that occurred this week at Porch Light Boutique, Blush Beauty Bar, and Sterling Coffee. Tillman was also indicted by a Multnomah County Grand Jury on April 19 in connection with several other commercial burglaries in Portland that reportedly happened in January.

Tillman has somehow managed to avoid convictions in many of the burglary and theft cases for which he has been implicated, with a number of the cases against him resulting in dismissals, according to court documents.
