Bagby Hot Springs Bathhouse Set To Be Demolished And Replaced

Citing deterioration and rot, the United States Forest closed Bathhouse 2 at Bagby Hot Springs and plans to demolish it.

PORTLAND, OR – One of the bathhouses at Bagby Hot Springs is closed. Bathhouse 2 was shut by the United States Forest Service, which will demolish it over the summer.

The USFS cited rot and deterioration in the 33-year-old structure as the reason.

The bathhouse had five private rooms – as opposed to the other two, which both only allow public soaking – and has long been a major draw at the springs.

"Our primary concerns was people soaking would break through the floor and fall quite a long way," Clackamas River District Ranger Jackie Groce told the paper.

"The extent of the rotting meant there was no quick fix."

The USFS will work to figure out the best way to replace the bathhouse in a manner that will last longer and still provide the experience that people are seeking.
