Bank Robber Waits At Bank For Police And Is Promptly Arrested

At this time, it's unclear why Jon Ware tried to rob the SW Portland Bank of the West and then waited for police to take him to jail.

PORTLAND, OR — A suspected bank robber, who apparently had no actual intention of robbing a bank, was arrested Friday morning in Southwest Portland, according to Portland police.

Jon Raymond Ware, 54, was taken to Multnomah County Jail and charged with robbery, theft, and disorderly conduct. His arraignment is scheduled for Monday.

Central Precinct officers were dispatched to a reported bank robbery at the Bank of the West located at 810 S.W. Broadway just before 11:30 a.m. March 9.

While en route, officers were informed by the 911 caller that the suspect — later identified as Ware — was still inside the bank and "waiting for law enforcement."

When officers arrived at the bank, they took Ware into custody without incident.

Ware has no criminal history in the state of Oregon, and at this time it's unclear why he just waited for officers to arrest him.
