Broadway Bridge Closures Scheduled For Early Next Week

The closures will impact overnight commuters and TriMet bus routes April 2 and 3, county officials said.

PORTLAND, OR — Broadway Bridge in downtown Portland will be closed to all traffic for two nights early next week, according to Multnomah County transportation officials.

Work on the century-old drawbridge mechanism will require crews to close the bridge to all commuters on Monday, April 2, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., and again — in sporadic 20-minute increments — on Tuesday, April 3, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The closures will allow crews to begin and complete a survey of drawbridge parts as well as install a shim, which will help prevent wear and keep the drawbridge parts aligned in support of the Rall wheels that help open the drawbridge, county transportation spokesman Mike Pullen said in a statement.

The Steel Bridge will act as a detour for TriMet's 17-Broadway/Holgate bus route as well as all cyclists and pedestrians. Drivers may also consider using the Fremont Bridge, Pullen said.
