Dark Horse Comics Again Teams With Oregon Emergency Management
Portland-based Dark Horse Comics again teams with Oregon Emergency Managemen, producing the third book in their "Without Warning" series.

PORTLAND, OR — Campers on a hike. A small fie turns into a blaze. Animals fleeing as their forest homes are destroyed. Emergency forces mobilizing.
These are all scenes from Without Warning! Wildfire, the third installment in their series of comic books promoting emergency preparedness.
The two previous books dealt with tsunamis and earthquakes.

"The Without Warning! comic book series began because we found that many public education publications struggled to resonate with younger audiences," OEM Geologic Hazards Program Coordinator Althea Rizzo said.
"The series has been a huge hit, helping us engage with youth while introducing and reinforcing the concept of readiness."

The new book focuses on people hiking in the Northwest who have to flee for their lives from a fast-moving wildfire. It offers tips on protecting themselves, their loved ones, and the land.
"Smokey Bear offers a variety of educational options for young children, but it’s been challenging to find engaging and creative resources to talk with teens and young adults about wildfire prevention," President and CEO of the Keep Oregon Green Association, Kristin Babbs, said.
"This comic book fills that important gap."
The book is available for free at Dark Horse Digital and OEM’s website.
