First Fridays at The Fremont

The Portland Story Theater will begin their Fall season, which starts on October 7th, at The Fremont.

The Portland Story Theater is entering into its 12th season in a smaller, more intimate venue. This community-based arts organization that specializes in 'storytelling' will have their season opener on October 7th in a new space: The Fremont, a music venue owned by Portland locals David Shur and Johnny Keener.

“For the last two seasons, we have been over at a cavernous theater, so we are really stoked to be moving back to a smaller, more intimate space,” says Lynne Duddy, Portland Story Theater founder.

The mission of the theater is rooted in co-creation and live story telling, which is in line with the more traditional mode of theater, in the ancient Greek fashion. Their performances are designed to foster community without the expenses associated with a more professional theater. It's a theater company of the people that explores performance by providing accessible, heart-to-heart experiences.

The Urban Tellers® series will be the season opener this first Friday. The series features 6 people from Portland who deliver a story they created together, and will deliver together. Urban Tellers® is the final product of Portland Story Theater's Art of the Personal Narrative workshop, which explores the personal vulnerability of an individual in addition to a collective history of a group of people. The series is intended to invite an audience into a shared storytelling experience. The present moment is what's most important with the Urban Tellers® series, and the purpose of these performances is to create community through shared experiences. Urban Tellers® is the first of many events on the docket for The Portland Story Theater.

Doors open at 7:00 PM and Stories begin at 8:00PM. The show is roughly 2 hours long with an intermission, and is recommended for ages 21 and up.
