Hawthorne Bridge Onramp Closure Scheduled For Saturday

Access to the SE Madison St. viaduct will be blocked from SE Grand Ave. for roughly 12 hours Saturday while crews repair the bridge deck.

PORTLAND, OR — Multnomah County transportation crews will close the Southeast Grand Avenue westbound onramp to the Hawthorne Bridge for up to 12 hours Saturday. The closure will reportedly allow crews to repair the bridge deck.

From 5 a.m. to roughly 5 p.m. Feb. 10, crews will block access to the Hawthorne Bridge along the Southeast Madison Street viaduct, between Southeast Grand and Southeast Water avenues. The Southeast Water Avenue onramp will remain open, however.

Southeast Madison Street will remain open to westbound foot and bicycle traffic, and eastbound lanes across the Hawthorne Bridge will not be impacted.

"During the closure, crews will pour new concrete into a section of deck in the inside (north) westbound lane on the viaduct," county transportation spokesman Mike Pullen said. "The northbound lane will remain closed until Monday, February 12 at 5 a.m. while the concrete cures (hardens). When the ramp reopens to traffic on Saturday, the TriMet bus stop on the ramp above Water Avenue will also reopen."
