Illegal Portland Street Racing Crackdown: 7 Arrested, Cars Towed

Police arrested seven people, towed cars and seized a gun in a crackdown of illegal street racing over the weekend.

PORTLAND, OR — Police arrested seven people, towed cars and seized a gun in a crackdown of illegal street racing over the weekend.

More than 200 people took over an intersection in Northeast Portland Saturday night into Sunday morning, police said.

Police arrested seven people on various charges, towed seven cars and seized a gun, Portland police said in a news release Monday. The charges included reckless driving and carrying a concealed weapon, according to police.

Of the seven people charged, four were booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center and released on their own recognizance, according to jail records. The other four were ticketed, police said.

Someone drove by and started firing toward the crowd as the police dispersed the crowd at the intersection of Northeast Multnomah Street and Northeast 13th Avenue, police said. No one was injured in the incident, according to police.

The police action was part of a crackdown on street racers who have taken over several city streets in recent months, resulting in several injuries — including shootings — as well as noise complaints from neighbors.

Police said that the following people were arrested.

  • Cristobal Ramos, 21. His car was towed, and he was charged with: possession of a weapon, attempt to elude by vehicle, reckless driving and interference with a police officer. He was booked into jail and released on his own recognizance.
  • Tavian Alika Jordan-Layacan, 23. His car was towed, and he was charged with attempt to elude by vehicle, attempt to elude by foot and reckless driving. He was booked into jail and released on his own recognizance.
  • Anthony Tyrone Davis, 28. His car was towed, and he was charged with reckless driving. He was booked into jail and released on his own recognizance.
  • Chase Thomas Hickman Davis, 18. His car was towed, and he was charged with attempt to elude by vehicle, attempt to elude by foot, reckless driving and carrying a concealed weapon. He was booked into jail and released on his own recognizance.
  • Nimer Maher Lamer, 27. His car was towed, and he was charged with reckless driving.
  • Miguel Angel Garnica Garcia, 38. His car was towed, and he was charged with reckless driving and driving under the influence.
  • Sidney Mikel Robertson, 28. His car was towed, and he was charged with reckless driving, attempt to elude by vehicle and interference with a public safety officer.
