Man Pointing Pellet Gun Arrested In Portland

Shawn Richie, 33, was reportedly pointing a firearm at people early Tuesday. After his arrest, police found the weapon was just a CO2 gun.

PORTLAND, OR — Police on Tuesday arrested a man who was reportedly seen pointing a firearm at people near Northeast 122nd Avenue and Northeast Halsey Street. After his arrest, officers learned the weapon was a replica handgun that fired projectiles, typically either BBs or pellets, via CO2.

Shawn Corey Richie, 33, was taken to Multnomah County Jail and charged with disorderly conduct. He has since been released.

East Precinct officers were reportedly dispatched following the report of a man pointing a gun at people just before 5:30 a.m. June 19.

When officers caught up to Richie, whom they identified as the suspect based on a witness' description, he reportedly still had the then-unidentified weapon in his hand.

Setting up in the 1900-block of Northeast 122nd Avenue, officers began coordinating their approach. Richie reportedly complied with their instruction to put the weapon down, after which he was arrested without further incident.
