Patch talks to Kevin Muir about Jester Theater and the importance of the Arts in low income schools.

Patch talks to Kevin Muir about his work with Jester Educational Theater and the importance of the Arts in education, especially for high-needs, high-poverty schools.

Patch: Tell Patch a little about you and your organization!

Kevin: We provide a much needed alternative source of academic instruction, particularly for many kids who don't thrive so well with conventional instruction. For many of the kids in the audience, our show is their first musical theater experience, and for some it may well be their only.

Patch: What is the biggest struggle your organization faces?

Kevin: Our primary focus right now is building up community support: an even stronger Board of Directors and a knowledge of who are throughout the city.

Patch: What do you hope for the future of your nonprofit?

Kevin: We are going to be the premiere children's theater company in out East Portland, offering professional musical theater productions and a strong educational program both in schools and at our JET headquarters (to be created). Donate to the Jester Theater.
