New Winter Weather Advisory Issued For Metro Region

National Weather Service forecasters issued the new winter weather alert just after 12 p.m. Wednesday.

PORTLAND, OR — The National Weather Service, with guidance from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, issued another winter weather advisory Wednesday afternoon, warning Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington residents to prepare for another possible snow storm.

School districts across the region cancelled classes for Feb. 21 in preparation for a snow storm that was expected to drop up to 7 inches of snow across greater Portland.

Most folks woke on Wednesday morning to find serene, snow-covered surroundings — significantly less than a half-foot of snow but still considerably icy roads.

The weather alert issued Wednesday just after 12:15 p.m. indicates a 60 percent chance of snow, with widespread accumulations of 1 to 2 inches and localized amounts up to 4 inches in areas above 500 feet in elevation beginning at 10 p.m. Feb. 21.

The new weather alert will reportedly remain in effect through 6 a.m. Thursday.

Weather conditions in the metro region at the time of the alert were varied. Some areas were totally overcast while others had partly cloudy skies.

Temperatures Wednesday afternoon didn't get much higher than the mid-30s, but overnight lows are expected to dip into the 20s, meaning whatever snow fell in your area will only have more added to it should this new forecast come to fruition.

A 50 to 80 percent chance for more snow is in the forecast for Thursday and Friday as well, with rain expected to begin as temperatures warm into the 40s over the weekend.

No schools have publicly made any official decisions for Thursday's classes, but some have mentioned providing an update by early Wednesday evening.

This post will be updated when that information is made available.
