Firefighters from several departments – the Dayton Fire District, the Dundee Fire District, the St. Paul Fire Department, and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue – were involved in trying to extinguish the explosive fire.

Because the crash took place on the bypass with no nearby fire hydrants, it took firefighters more than one hour to bring the fire under control. Water had to be transported to the scene.

Officials say that the crash likely resulted from ice on the bypass though the investigation continues.

The area was closed for hours.
