Northeast Portland Early Morning Apartment Fire Kills Grandmother
A 79-year-old grandmother is dead and three family members injured after a fire early Wednesday tore through their apartment in NE Portland.
PORTLAND, OR – A fire early Wednesday morning in an apartment in Northeast Portland killed a 79-year-old grandmother and sent three members of her family to the hospital with smoke inhalation It happened around 3:30 a.m. at an apartment in the Stark Firs Apartments at 160th and Everett.
Residents of nearby apartments tried to help.
A father and mother and their 8-year-old daughter were able to get out and rushed to the hospital. All are expected to be physically okay.

People who were helping, though, could not get to the grandmother who was trapped inside.

Officials say that they are still working to determine a cause of the fire.
