The Oregon Health Authority says that last week, 27.9 percent of all new cases were breakthrough cases, the rest were in unvaccinated people

PORTLAND, OR — While unvaccinated people continue to be the largest source of new COVID-19 cases in Oregon, more than a fourth of the new cases occurred in people who had been vaccinated. The breakthrough cases occurred in 27.9 percent – or 2,156 of 7,723 cases – of people who had received their shots.

In their new report on breakthrough cases, the Oregon Health Authority said that breakthrough cases had been found in all 36 of the state's counties.

There have been 35,424 breakthrough cases since people started getting vaccinated earlier this year. Officials point out that it's still a very small percentage of the more than 2.8 million people who have had at least one of their shots.

While the average of people who have had breakthrough cases is 48, officials pointed out that more people ages 12-17 (91) had seen breakthrough cases than people living in care facilities, senior living communities, or similar facilities that care for several people (69).
