Oregon COVID-19 Cases Creep Above 1,000 After Hitting Recent Lows

After several days of reporting fewer than 1,000, the Oregon Health Authority reported that there were 1,160 new cases and 13 new deaths.

PORTLAND, OR — The news was good while it lasted. For several straight days, the Oregon Health Authority reported that there were less than 1,000 new cases of COVID-19. The numbers were the lowest that they had been since July 2021.

That came to an end on Thursday.

The state reported that there were 1,160 new cases across Oregon along with 13 new deaths.

The Oregon Health Authority reports that unvaccinated people continue to be the driving factor. Nearly 75 percent of the cases that were reported between November 7 and 13 had occurred in people who have not been vaccinated.

The state says that 25.5 percent of the new cases were breakthrough cases, which are cases in people who have been vaccinated.

Of the 3,508 breakthrough cases, 40 were found in people living in care facilities, senior living communities or other group facilities while 37 were reported in people. between 12 and 17 years old.

The new cases continue to put strains on hospitals in the state.

Only 9 percent of adult ICU beds are available across Oregon and only 6 percent of non ICU beds are available.
