Oregon COVID-19 Weekly Caseload Increases While Deaths Decline

Oregon had been watching weekly total coronavirus cases decline for several weeks. That ended this past week, according to the state.

PORTLAND, OR — It's good news and bad news in the weekly round of COVID-19 cases from the Oregon Health Authority. The good news is that both the number of hospitalizations and the number of deaths fell the week ending October 31.

The bad news is that the total number of cases rose for the first time in more than two months.

There had been eight straight weeks of decline in the total number of cases. The week ending Sunday saw that end when the state reported 7,877 new cases of COVID-19 during the previous seven days. That's a 2.2 percent.

The number of cases were higher in counties where less than 50 percent of the eligible population has been vaccinated.

Hospitalizations decreased to 313 from 415 the previous week. The total is the lowest number since the week ending July 1.

OHA says that the number of people who died also dropped this past week, to 82 from 110 the previous week.

Meanwhile, Tuesday saw 64 deaths, raising Oregon's COVID-19 death toll to 4,469. the number of new cases on Tuesday was 1,128, which brings the total to 369,815.
