Oregon DMV Adds Color To Your Life, Unveils New Driver's Licenses

Oregon DMV unveiled new driver's licenses and state identification cards – the first major upgrade since 2003. The new cards debut in 2019.

PORTLAND, OR – If there's ever been a government agency that people believe lies up to the stereotype of a faceless, humorless bureaucracy, it's the Department of Motor Vehicles. In Oregon, DMV is aware of this and are working on bringing a little more color to your life.

The department just unveiled a redesign of its driver's licenses – for people 21 and over and for people under 21.

It's the first major redesign since 2003.

Officials say that the new color design will make it harder for forgers to make fake IDs.

They will also have a hologram on the front.

One thing that the cards will not be is in compliance with the Real ID rules that the federal government is mandating.

Oregon won't issue those cards until mid-2020.

The new colorful cards will be available in some Salem offices next week. They wll be available across the state by next spring.

DMV says that you won't have to get a new card until your current card expires.
