- Tina Kotek was sworn in as the governor of Oregon yesterday. The 39th governor continues the streak of democratic governors serving the state since 1987. Gov. Kotek said, "...for me, this job will be waking up every day with a mission. My mission, simply put, is to deliver results for Oregonians. To take on our biggest challenges and make things better." (KOIN)
- Two miles of Northwest Germantown Road has been closed and will remain that way through Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 5:00 p.m. The Portland Bureau of Transportation has crews cleaning up the road from Northwest Skyline Boulevard to Northwest Bridge Avenue from recent storms which impacted the area. Rocks, soil, and tree debris will be removed during the closure. (KGW.com)
- Forrest Sherman, a longtime Portland-area football coach, is accused of sexually abusing a high school student in 2007. Sherman, who now serves as the assistant football coach at Lewis & Clark College, is being sued – along with defunct Velocity Sports Performance – for $3 million in damages. The victim alleges she was 17-years-old and a student at Southridge High School in Beaverton when Sherman, who served as personal trainer, manipulated her into having sexual intercourse. The woman's attorney said, "(She) has suffered and will continue to suffer significant psychological trauma as a result of her abuse." (OregonLive)
