Police Arrest Juvenile Near Roosevelt High School

A boy who was reportedly involved in a fight near the school was arrested after witnesses told police he was armed with a handgun.

PORTLAND, OR — Portland police on Wednesday arrested a boy who was reportedly involved in a fight at Roosevelt High School. Prior to the juvenile's arrest, a member of the community reported seeing the boy armed with a handgun.

In accordance with Oregon law, the boy's identity will not be released, police said.

Officers were dispatched to 6941 N. Central St. just before noon Oct. 10 after receiving reports of a fight at the high school. While still en route, 911 callers told dispatchers one of the boys involved was armed with a handgun.

The boy fled before police arrived, but using a description provided by witnesses officers found the boy walking a few blocks away, near North Lombard Street and North Buchanan Avenue. He was subsequently arrested without incident, police said.

After searching the area following the boy's arrest, police and a community member located the loaded handgun they believe was dropped by the juvenile. It was taken as evidence.

The boy was later taken to the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Home.
