Police Issue 23 Citations During Vision Zero Missions
Portland traffic police also gave out 13 written warnings during two separate Vision Zero operations Monday.

PORTLAND, OR — Two Vision Zero traffic safety operations Monday saw Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division officers hand out 23 citations and 13 written warnings, according to PPB officials.
Focusing on "dangerous behaviors," officers were reportedly given carte blanche to stop drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists at their own discretion, all the while sharing information about the Vision Zero mission with everyone they stopped.
The first operation, conducted with help from Union Pacific Railroad Police between 1 and 4 p.m. Feb. 26 at railroad crossings near North Columbia Boulevard and North Hurst Avenue, saw police issue seven citations and 11 written warnings.

The second was held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. along Southeast Division Street, between Southeast 82nd and Southeast 122nd avenues. Police issued 16 citations and two written warnings.
PPB spokesman Sgt. Christopher Burley said more operations will be conducted in the future, as the Bureau continues "working with our partners in government and the community to create safer streets and work towards reducing, and eventually eliminating, traffic fatalities as part of Vision Zero."
