Commercial Café recently released its findings of the top 40 most sustainable U.S. cities, with 6 of the top 10 located on the West Coast.

PORTLAND, OR — Both Portland and Eugene made the list of Top 40 Sustainably Powered U.S. Cities as identified by real estate blog Commercial Café. Coming in at #4 and #8, respectively, Portland and Eugene were among the six West Coast cities making up the top 10 sustainably powered U.S. cities.

Rounding out the top 10 are Hayward, CA (#10), Washington D.C. (#9), Boulder, CO (#7), Minneapolis (#6), Boston (#5), Oakland (#3), Seattle (#2), and San Francisco (#1).

Commercial Café ranked each of the 40 cities by measuring and assigning a point scheme to each city's use of varying power sources — such as hydropower, geothermal, solar, wind, and biomass, as well as energy sources that negatively impacted the city's individual score, such as coal, oil, gas, and nuclear thermal power plants.
