Portland Hatchet Attack: Standard Insurance Employee Targeted

Police say that after being told to leave Standard Insurance Center, Nathan Shrader returned with a hatchet and attacked an employee.

PORTLAND, OR – A 35-year-old man was arrested Wednesday morning after police say he attacked an employee at the Standard Insurance Center downtown with a hatchet. Nathan Shrader is charged with assault.

Police say that Shrader had been at the Center at 900 Southwest 5th Avenue and told to leave. He returned soon after with a hatchet and attacked an employee with the blunt end of a hatchet.

Police say that the man was not seriously injured and did not require medical attention.

Shrader was found by officers soon after on Southwest Taylor between 3rd and 4th Avenues.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Police say that they also recovered the hatchet pictured above.

There's been no word yet on what led to the attack.
