Portland Man Charged As Vandal In String Of Downtown Incidents

Portland Police say that 35-year-old Stephen Pustay is responsible for a string of vandalism incidents downtown on Wednesday.

PORTLAND, OR – Portland Police arrest a man they say was responsible for a string of vandalism incidents downtown the day after Christmas. Stephen Pustay is charged with robbery, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, assault, and burglary.

Officers had responded Mika Sushi at 1425 Southwest 2nd Avenue just before 7 p.m. Wednesday night.

They were told a man had come in, told people he had a knife – which was never seen – and demanded money.

Based on the description officers got from Mika Sushi, they were able find the person since identified as Pustay.

They then linked to him to a few other recent incidents:

  • Breaking a window at House of Ramen at 223 Southwest Columbia not long after the Mika Sushi incident;
  • An incident at the Century Towers at 1201 SW 12th Avenue just before noon, the same day in which Pustay allegedly assaulted to employees who had asked him to leave; and
  • An incident just before the one at Mika Sushi in which Pustay allegedly broke windows on a car.

He was taken into custody without incident.
