Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler Tells Paper He Expects To Run Again

"People should assume that I'm going to run a very aggressive reelection campaign," Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler told the Portland Tribune.

PORTLAND, OR – Remember that whole thing last week when Mayor Ted Wheeler, after facing an audience of around 400 people, left the stage muttering to himself about how he "can't wait" for his term to be over? And how it happened tp be overheard by a reporter from the Oregonian.

Suddenly Portland was thinking was the city going to have it's fourth straight one-term mayor.

Since Vera Katz left office in 2004 after three straight terms, Portland has had a series of one-term ponies: Tom Potter, Sam Adams, and Charlie Hales.

That's Wheeler's new message.

"People should assume that I'm going to run a very aggressive re-election campaign, with an equally aggressive forward-looking agenda," Wheeler told the Portland Tribune in a sit down interview.

"That's my expectation."

He told the paper that he let hecklers "get under my skin" and it was a mistake.

Wheeler says that he will make a final decision on whether to run next year.
