Here are the top three stories today in Portland:
- Portland police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Tuesday night, May 9, in Northeast Portland. The only details released about the incident are the location, near the intersection of East Burnside Street and Northeast 122nd Avenue, and the time, around 8:10 p.m. (KOIN)
- On Tuesday, May 9, at the Portland school board meeting, Superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero’s safety and security task force recommended "re-establishing" the Youth Services Division in collaboration with the Portland Police Bureau. Instead of armed police in the building, the Portland police officers would be "available and near schools" in case of emergency situations. However, Herman Greene, a board member, said he supported having police officers stationed in schools. (OPB)
- Portland police said 29-year-old Adam Jamal Burns was arrested on Monday, May 8, in Vancouver. Burns has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Nicole Newcomb-Cripe near Reed College in Southeast Portland on Apr. 15. According to police, Burns will remain in Washington until he is extradited to Oregon. (KGW)
