They gave chase – the driver even drove a spike strip that deflated one of his tires – and saw him jump out of the car by Ed Benedict Park around 102 and Powell.

Maverick pursued him and eventually caught up and held him until two-legged officers arrived.

The man has since been identified as 22-year-old William Appel and he's charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, attempting to elude by vehicle, attempting to elude on foot, driving with a revoked license, possession of methamphetamine, and interfering with a peace officer.

This sort of action is nothing new to Maverick. He's been involved in the arrest of several people over the years.

In April, after helping capture two people – both of whom had rifles that turned out to be replicas – he broke a leg while helping make an arrest.

He returned to active duty in August.
