Portland Police Say Man Seriously Injured Officer With A Pipe
It started with a report of a man throwing rocks at vehicles and ended with a man charged with assaulting a police officer with a pipe.

PORTLAND, OR – A man is in jail, charged with assaulting a Portland Police Officer with a pipe over the weekend. Police say that 36-year-old Tsegay Abraha is charged with first degree assault after hitting an officer in the head with the pipe, seriously injuring him.
The officer was responding to the 4100 block of Southeast Ivon Street around 7:15 on the evening of Nov. 10 after receiving a report that a man was throwing rocks at vehicles as they drove by.
The officer, whose name has not been released, found a man matching the description of the rock-thrower at 45th and Ivon.

Police say that as the officer made contact, Abraha responded by hitting him in the head.

While the officer was able to hold Abraha until backup arrived, the officer was then rushed to the hospital in a police car where he was admitted with what the police say were "serious injuries."
As other officers continued the investigation, they discovered that a man matching Abraha's description had attacked a woman on the 2500 block of Southeast 41st Avenue nearby,
She told police that she'd been on her porch when the man struck her with a pipe and damaged some property.
She had not been seriously injured and didn't need medical care.
