Portland Police Say Officer Shoots Man In SE PDX Who Later Dies

An officer responded to a report of a man refusing to leave a property on Southeast Market. Police say the officer shot the man who died.

PORTLAND, OR – A Portland Police officer fatally shot a man during a confrontation in a home on Southeast Market on Sunday afternoon. They add that the officer responded to the home on the 9600 Southeast Market around 2 p.m. after getting a report that a man refused to leave the property.

Officials say that the officer made contact with the man and shortly afterward told dispatch that he had fired his weapon and needed an emergency medical response to the scene.

The officer had shot the man who was rushed to the hospital where he died.

Police as of late Sunday had not released any info about the person who was killed other than he was an adult.

"As with all officer-involved shootings, we are committed to a full investigation," Chief Danielle Outlaw said

"A loss of life impacts us all and I know we all immediately search for answers. I ask for patience as we continue our investigative process and then release information as soon as it is appropriate."

The officer has to sit for an interview with detectives from internal affairs within 48 hours of the incident.

The bureau has placed the officer on administrative duty until investigations by the police bureau and the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office complete their investigation.
