Portland Woman Attacked By Raccoon Sues Ex-Landlord Over Trash

PORTLAND, OR – Heidi Schultz says it didn't have to happen. And since it did, she now wants more than $150,000.

It was September 1, 2017 and Schultz was walking her chihuahuas in a common area of the Wimbledon Square Apartments by Southeast Colt Drive and Southeast 30th Avenue. As she walked by a trash dumpster that she said was overflowing with trash, she was attacked and bitten by a raccoon.

Schultz's suit says that she had to go the emergency room where concerns over rabies led doctors to give her more than 60 shots in her legs. As a result of the attack, she says, she's suffered from "pain, discomfort, disability, and emotional distress.."

Schultz claims that the landlord of the complex knew about the overflowing trash and the possibility that would attract raccoons and other "vermin."

The landlord has not yet responded to the suit.

Schultz has since moved out.
