Portland Woman Busted For Burglary, Writes Letters of Apology

Meagan Judith Cruz-Smith wrote letters to her victims saying that she "is addicted to heroin and steals to support" her habit, the DA says..

PORTLAND, OR – The first time that Meagan Judith Cruz-Streath was convicted of a crime, she was 12-years-old. On Oct. 11, the 27-year-old will be back in court. This time on burglary charges.

Cruz-Streath is charged with 11 counts of burglary after being arrested earlier this week.

The Multnomah County District Attorney says that she was caught on video stealing from places including Patrick Lumber, Heir, and storage units at the Harrison Tower apartments. Court records say that after being told of her rights, she admitted to her crimes and wrote letters of apology to her victims.

"She explained that she committed these crimes because she is addicted to heroin and steals to support her drug habit," according to Deputy District Attorney Nathan Vasquez.

Vasquez says that she stole – among other itms – a pair of Ugg boots, a bicycle, and a laptop.

She will be back in court on Oct. 11.
