- This year, Portland's Pride Festival will occur later than expected, on Jul. 16. In December, Portland Northwest announced that the festival would move to mid-July due to schedule overlaps with other celebrations. Portland has celebrated pride in June since 1975, but this year that plan is changing with an even bigger festival. (Portland Mercury)
- Hundreds of families in the Portland area are protesting Catholic schools because of Western Oregon Archbishop Alexander Sample’s idea that schools shouldn't recognize transgender or nonbinary students' identities. Sample released a 17-page document in January stating his ideas, but many parents quickly realized that Catholic schools were making it a mandate rather than a teaching and formation resource. Rumors began that many schools would be required to follow suit in the next school year, causing an uproar among parents. (The Oregonian)
- The victim of a recent Northeast Portland shooting has been identified as 24-year-old Marlan Johnson. According to police reports, Johnson was shot in the Lloyd District neighborhood after 9:45 p.m. When Police responded to the scene, they found Johnson with a gunshot wound, and despite their attempts to save him, he died at the scene.
