PSU Considers Memorial To Man Killed By Its Safety Officers
The school also announced on Thursday that one of the officers who shot Jason Washington has left PSU and Portland for another job.

PORTLAND, OR – Portland State University says that they are considering a memorial to Jason Washington, a man shot and killed by safety officers after he pointed a gun at them in June. The announcement came Thursday in response to the hundreds who turned out at meeting of the school's board of trustees,
Many of the hundreds in attendance were there to demand that the school disarm its officers, who have only been able to carry guns for the past three years.
The shooting of Washington was the first time a PSU officer had killed someone. Get all the latest information on what's happening in your community by signing up for Patch's newsletters and breaking news alerts.

Last month, a grand jury in Multnomah County voted not to indict the officers in the shooting, stating that they had acted reasonably. Video recorded by cameras worn by the officers show Washington appearing to point a gun.
The school also disclosed that of the two officers, one has returned to work, handling administrative duties while the school's internal probe continues and the other has left PSU and Portland to take another job.
