Road Project To Impact Traffic In NE Portland

To replace a natural gas line, Northwest Natural crews will need to disrupt traffic between Fairview and Wood Village for several weeks.

PORTLAND, OR — Traffic between Fairview and Wood Village will be disrupted for several weeks beginning Monday as Northwest Natural crews work to replace a natural gas like near the intersection of Northeast 223rd Avenue and Northeast Arata Road.

According to Multnomah County spokesman Mike Pullen, the following the traffic impacts will occur:

  • No left turns permitted from eastbound Northeast Barr Road to Northeast 223rd Avenue;
  • No left turns permitted from southbound Northeast 223rd Avenue to eastbound Northeast Arata Road;
  • The westbound lane of Northeast Arata Road is closed between Wood Village Boulevard and Northeast 223rd Avenue, so westbound traffic from Arata Road should detour to Wood Village Boulevard and Northeast Halsey Street to access Northeast 223rd Avenue;
  • The outside northbound lane of Northeast 223rd Avenue is closed for 350 feet south of Northeast Arata Road; and
  • The pedestrian crosswalk on the east side of the Northeast Arata and Northeast 223rd intersection is closed.

Pullen said flaggers will be in place to help direct traffic. He also encourages drivers in the area to pay attention to their surroundings, use caution, and obey all flaggers and traffic signs.

Another project slated to occur this year will see county crews rebuild Northeast Arata Road between Northeast 223rd Avenue and Northeast 238th Drive, Pullen added. That $4.5 million project is expected to begin this spring and continue through late 2018.
