Robbery Suspect Makes A Run For The Border, Gets Arrested

After failing to rob a 7-11 and instead opting to rob a customer in the parking lot, Brandon Phillips was captured at a nearby Taco Bell.

PORTLAND, OR — Have you ever wanted tacos so bad you were willing to rob someone to get them? Portland police on Wednesday arrested a man who apparently was.

Brandon Terell Phillips, 28, was arrested at Taco Bell and taken to Multnomah County Jail March 7. He's been charged with four counts of felony robbery. His bail is set at $1 million.

East Precinct officers were first dispatched to a reported robbery at the Montavilla 7-11 at 575 S.E. 92nd Ave. just before 12:30 a.m.

Witnesses told officers the suspect, later identified as Phillips, came into the 7-11 holding a firearm and demanded money. It's unclear what took place at the convenience store, but Phillips left before taking any cash, according to Portland Police Bureau spokesman Sgt. Christopher Burley.

Outside the store, prior to police arrival, Phillips reportedly held up a person in the parking lot, again using the gun but this time obtaining an undisclosed amount of money.

Witnesses again called 911 and gave police, who were already en route to 7-11, Phillips' description and location.

Officers found Phillips less than a block away at a Taco Bell, located at 9350 S.E. Stark St., where he was taken into custody without further incident.

Burley did not say whether Phillips had gotten any tacos yet.
