RoseVilla Senior Living Among Top Fundraisers in Portland’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Community raises more than $17,000 to support Alzheimer's research and care

From the tranquil paths of RoseVilla Senior Living’s Promise Garden to the winding walkways of the Oregon Zoo, Residents, Team Members, families, and friends walked with purpose, taking thousands of meaningful steps that together raised more than $17,000 to support Alzheimer’s and dementia research and awareness.

Twenty-six RoseVilla Residents joined hundreds of participants in Portland’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, one of the region’s largest awareness events. The RoseVilla Team ranked among the top three fundraisers, surpassing its $15,000 goal through 125 individual donations.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s was one of two events the nonprofit, single-site Continuing Care & Retirement Community (CCRC) participated in to support a cause that resonates deeply with the nearly 400 Residents who call RoseVilla home.

“All of us have been impacted by Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia,” said Kate Dins, a RoseVilla Resident and team co-captain. “Living in a small community like RoseVilla, we see firsthand the impact these diseases have on our neighbors and friends. We walk to honor those who are living with dementia, remember those we’ve lost, and to support all the caregivers.”

Each fall, the community gathers at RoseVilla’s Promise Garden for its own Alzheimer’s Awareness Walk. This year’s Oct. 10 event drew more than 40 Residents and Team Members for a ceremony, followed by a reflective campus walk and concluding with RoseVilla’s “Pour at Four”—an opportunity for gratitude and connection.

Set within the community’s Tranquility Garden, the Promise Garden serves as a sanctuary of remembrance and hope. Each flower planted represents a promise: to remember those lost, support caregivers, and continue advocating for a future without Alzheimer’s.

These iconic flowers in the Promise Garden are more than symbols for Resident and team co-captain Don Lehman. “The sign and all the Walk to End Alzheimer’s flowers are a beautiful visual reminder of our community’s commitment to ending these terrible diseases,” he said.

RoseVilla’s dedication to Alzheimer’s and dementia awareness reflects its broader mission to champion the power of community. “When Residents come together in a shared purpose, community becomes more than a place, it becomes a source of strength, compassion, and hope. We can face any challenge together,” said RoseVilla CEO Glen Lewis.
