Sandy Blvd Project Will Impact Traffic Through Fall
The $1.7 million project will see a half-mile section of Sandy Blvd completely made over with sidewalks, bike lanes, and more.

PORTLAND, OR — Drivers who regularly commute along Northeast Sandy Boulevard through Wood Village should expect traffic hiccups from March 1 through Fall, while county road crews make improvements to a section of roadway between Northeast 230th Avenue and Northeast 238th Drive.
While the section of roadway under construction will remain open through the duration of the work, traffic will be impacted with possible delays and other slowdowns, according to Multnomah County transportation spokesman Mike Pullen.
The half-mile section of roadway runs parallel to Interstate-84 on its north side and lacks sidewalks, save for in front of the Walmart Supercenter and small outlet area. The road is also in serious need of repair.

"The project will convert this section of Sandy Boulevard to a modern urban street with turn lanes," Pullen explained in a statement. "It will include new pavement, drainage improvements, new sidewalks and bike lanes, and enhancements to existing bus stops. A new right turn lane for traffic entering the Townsend Farms business park will also be constructed."
TriMet's bus stops in the project area, which include line 21 Sandy/223rd, will temporarily close, though access for pedestrians, residents, businesses, emergency vehicles, mail carriers, garbage services, and school buses will be maintained, Pullen said.

The two-phase construction process will allow crews to keep open one lane, which will be managed by flaggers. The project is estimated to cost $1.7 million.
