Stabbing Suspect Arrested, ID'd: Police

Mark Lockhart Jr. was picked up Thursday night after allegedly stabbing a man he knows in downtown Portland.

PORTLAND, OR — Police on Friday identified the man allegedly responsible for stabbing another man near the White Stag Building in downtown Portland Thursday evening. The stabbing victim sustained a serious but non-life-threatening injury, police said.

Mark Anthony Lockhart Jr., 37, was taken to Multnomah County Jail, where he is now being held on a parole violation. Portland police reportedly expect to file additional charges related to the stabbing.

The investigation began when Central Precinct officers were dispatched to a reported stabbing in the 200-block of Northwest Couch Street just before 8:45 p.m. Sept. 20. At the scene, officers reportedly found one male victim with a stab wound.

While officers and emergency responders tended to the victim, other officers canvassing the area located the stabbing suspect — later identified as Lockhart — near Northwest Third Avenue and Northwest Couch Street, about one block from the scene of the crime.

Lockhart was reportedly arrested without incident. At the same time, police found in Lockhart's possession the knife they believe was used in the stabbing.

Prior to Lockhart's arrest Thursday, a warrant was issued on Sept. 18 in Washington County. Lockhart, on probation for a possession of methamphetamine conviction in November 2017, had failed to check in with his probation officer in August.

On July 31, Lockhart was cited for allegedly shoplifting from a Portland Rite Aid.

Listed as homeless, Lockhart has reportedly denied housing assistance from the city in the past, opting instead to stay transient with his girlfriend.
