Union Gospel Mission Hosts Operation Overcoat This Weekend
UGM volunteers will provide food, clothing, and living supplies at the Mission's downtown Portland facility for several hours on Saturday.
PORTLAND, OR — The Union Gospel Mission this Saturday will host its 18th annual Operation Overcoat to benefit the region's homeless and others in-need. During the event, clothing, food, and living supplies will be available for free at the Mission's downtown Portland location.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 29, the Union Gospel Mission will block off Northwest Third Avenue from Northwest Couch to West Burnside streets in order to host its annual street fair. Volunteers will provide of meal of barbecue hamburgers and hot dogs, potato salad, chips, and soft drinks, as well as clothing and footwear, sleeping bags and blankets, and personal hygiene items.
At the 2017 Operation Overcoat event, UGM volunteers handed out more than 3,000 articles of clothing and 1,300 meals.

UGM officials are reportedly still seeking interested volunteers to help dish up food and assist with the event. To volunteer, call 503-274-4483, or email volunteer@ugmportland.org.
