PORTLAND, OR – This much is certain. Jason Washington is dead. The two public safety officers from Portland State University who shot him will not face charges.
On Friday, Portland State University released footage from the body cameras worn by the officers as well as 70 still-frames from the video. Meanwhile, the Portland Police Bureau released nearly 400 pages of reports detailing interviews and other information from the shooting.
Despite more information, there are still questions, some of which may never be answered. Get all the latest information on what's happening in your community by signing up for Patch's newsletters and breaking news alerts.

It was June 29th and Washington, a father of three who was a Navy veteran who was working for the United States Post Office, was out drinking at the Cheerful Tortoise with his friend, Jeremy Wilkinson.
According to police reports, Wilkinson said that there was a group of around seven or eight guys were harassing them. After about 30 minutes, they left and were followed by the group.

Wilkinson told police that he has a permit to carry a concealed weapon and he had a gun on him at the time.
As the group followed the two of them, Wilkinson would tell police, he started to turn toward them but Washington stopped him, saying he had to give him his gun.
He told officers that he did as his friend told him because "he did not want to make a poor decision during the fight."
Washington put the gun and holster on.
At SW 6th and College, the two groups started to fight. During the melee, the gun fell to the ground.
Wilkinson was knocked unconscious. The public safety officers from Portland State University arrived at the scene.
Washington can be seen reaching for the gun and pointing in the direction of the officers.
Within 10 seconds of their arrival, the officers had fired 17 shots and Washington was dead.
On Thursday, a grand jury voted not to indict the officers, saying that they had acted in self-defense.
Portland State University, which put itself at the center of controversy three years ago when it made the decision to arm its officers, says that they will not conduct two reviews – one of the incident and a larger one into public safety issues at the University.
Meanwhile, Washington's family is considering a civil suit against the officers and university.
