Willamette River Sewage Overflow: Public Told To Use Caution
A sewer overflow leaked into the Willamette River on Thursday night. The public are urged to use caution and avoid contact with the river.

PORTLAND, OR – A sewer line broke in Portland on Thursday night, sending sewage overflow into the Willamette River. The city's Bureau of Environmental Services said that sewage went from the sewer line to the ground and then into a storm sewer that released into the river.
The overflow started at around 2 p.m. and the obstruction was cleared of debris just over five hours later.
Approximately 1,000 gallons made into the river.

Officials say that people should avoid the river in the area of Southwest Macadam Avenue for the next 48 hours.

The water is being test for possible E-coli contamination.
