Montco Official Removed From One Post After Comments On Charlie Kirk Killing

AMBLER, PA — The Montgomery County official who called for violence following the killing of Charlie Kirk has been removed from one of her posts.

Jennifer Stomsky had already resigned her role as vice chair of the Democratic Party in Whitpain Township. She has now been removed as deputy tax collector in Whitpain Township by the Whitpain Township Board of Supervisors, in a resolution that was issued on Sept. 16.

However, she remains as the Ambler borough tax collector.

Ambler Mayor Jeanne Sorg has called for Stomsky to resign, saying that free speech"does not extend to the use of public authority to promote or encourage criminal behavior."

"Political violence and those who advocate it are an anathema to our nation’s values and to the rule of law," Sorg said earlier this week. "Any public official who irresponsibly makes comments advocating violence and those who support it should resign their offices immediately. Every elected official in Ambler has a duty to serve all residents with fairness, dignity, and respect. No one who encourages violence against political opponents can credibly continue in office."

Stomsky issued a public apology earlier this week. But national attention to her comments, in which she said she was "so tired of being told that violence isn't the answer," led to a petition calling for her resignation from her Ambler post.

The GoFundMe petition calling for Stomsky's resignation from her Ambler role gained nearly a thousand signatures.

"This is not the Ambler I have grown to love," one respondent said.

Stomsky's comments went on to lament she was "tired of being told we have to be better than the other side."

"History is filled with blood, so stop being so (expletive) righteous and squeamish, and climb out of the (expletive) pot before it boils you," she wrote.

She added further that Democrats were "bringing fluffy down filled pillows to a (expletive) machine gun fight."

Montgomery County's Republican Commissioner Tom DiBello said that her comments should be turned over to police.

"I can’t condone any of the words or actions in her posts which include promoting the killing of more people," he said. "Again I don’t care who you are violence especially political violence can’t be tolerated and most stop."

A previous version of this story incorrectly suggested that Stomsky had been removed from her Ambler post. As of Thursday morning, this is not the case.
