Cranberry Offering Free Car Seat Checks

Is Junior buckled in properly? Here's your chance to be certain

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA - Properly installing a car seat is a critical component to reducing the risk of child injuries from vehicle accidents, but according to the National Traffic Safety Administration most of the seats are installed incorrectly. Could yours be one of them?

You can find out Sept. 23, when the township EMS, together with township and state police, will hold a free car seat check from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the EMS base station next to the Route 19 Park Fire Station.

According to the NTSA, the correct installation and use of car seats, booster seats and seatbelts for children is more complicated than most people realize. The child’s age and weight, as well as the specifics of each car seat and vehicle model, determine which installation steps and safety measures are appropriate. Over time, as children grow, the correct safety measures change along with them.

A check-up can take as long as a half-hour, so appointments are strongly recommended. Bring along your car seat manufacturer’s instructions as well as your vehicle owner’s manual, if they’re available. To reserve a time, Call 724-776-4480, ext. 1902.
