Fraud, Assault, Theft, More: Haverford Crime Blotter

Haverford Police said a resident got a call from someone purporting to be with the Delaware County Sheriff's Office in an attempted scam.

HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, PA — Haverford Police released their latest crime blotter, detailing recent incidents in the township.

Incidents in the blotter occurred between Oct. 29 and Nov. 4.

The blotter also features arrests made and citations issued.

  • Fraud at the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue on Oct. 29 at 5:42 p.m. – The victim advised that while using her computer, a pop-up ad regarding a virus appeared. The victim clicked on the ad and her computer went black. She was then contacted from someone claiming to be from Microsoft. She allowed them remote access to her computer to fix the issue. The victim then recognized the scam.
  • Theft at Haverford College, E. County Line Road and Hannum Drive, on Oct. 29 at 4 p.m. – Vehicle windows were broken; a purse was stolen.
  • Theft at Haverford College, E. County Line Road and Hannum Drive, on Oct. 29 at 4:14 p.m. – Vehicle window was broken; a purse was stolen.
  • Retail Theft at Giant, 100 block of W. Township Line Road, on Oct. 29 at 1:52 p.m. – The same male subject stole beer on three separate occasions. Total loss is $47.
  • Fraud at the 100 block of W. Hillcrest Avenue on Oct. 30 at 2:25 p.m. – The victim reported that he clicked on a Facebook advertisement that led to a pop-up notification claiming his computer was compromised. He called a number he found online, believing it was Microsoft, and gave the scammer his personal information. The scammer attempted to defraud him $15,000 via cashier check, but the victim realized it was a scam before any money was lost.
  • Retail Theft at Wawa, unit block of E. Eagle Road, on Oct. 30 at 1:01 a.m. – Three male subjects stole an unknown amount of merchandise.
  • Attempted Theft at the 100 block of E. Golf View Road on Oct. 31 at 2:07 p.m. – Security camera showed an unknown male walking onto private property attempting to enter two vehicles.
  • Theft at YMCA, 800 block of N. Eagle Road, on Nov. 1 at 10:48 a.m. – The victim reported that three credit cards were stolen from his secured locker.
  • Fraud at the 300 block of David Drive on Nov. 3 at 4:39 p.m. – The victim received a phone call from a person claiming to be from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office. The caller told the victim she had two outstanding citations for failure to appear. They attempted to get the victim to pay $1,000 per citation. The victim became suspicious and called 911.
  • Identity Theft at the 700 block of Ardmore Avenue on Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. – The victim reported that she was notified that someone purchases a cell phone on her T-Mobile account.
  • Fraud at the Quadrangle, 3300 block of Darby Road, on Nov. 3 at 6:41 p.m. – The victim received a text from someone claiming to be from PayPal. They advised her of fraudulent activity on her PayPal account and advised her to withdraw money from her bank account. The victim recognized the scam before she sent the money.
  • Identity Theft at the 300 block of Stanley Avenue on Nov. 4 at 4:35 p.m. – The victim reported that someone opened a Home Depot credit card using his identity.

  • 22-year-old male, 5500 block of Greenway Avenue, Philadelphia. Charges: Simple assault, harassment, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief. Location: unit block of Lexington Avenue. Date: Oct. 31 at 11:53 p.m.
