Official 'Jeopardy!' Bar Trivia League Coming To Newtown Restaurant

NEWTOWN, PA — Attention all Bucks County "Jeopardy!" fans: the official "Jeopardy!" bar trivia league is coming to a taco and tequila spot for you to test your brain power.

Bomba ¡Tacos + Tequila! in Newtown has announced the launch of weekly Jeopardy! Bar League tournaments on January 22.

The events will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. and winners can get $25 gift cards for places like Cuba Libre, Paladar Latin Kitchen, and Bomba, as well as other businesses in the area, according to Bomba ¡Tacos + Tequila! co-owner Barry Gutin.

Jeopardy! Bar League is presented by trivia company Geeks Who Drink and is officially licensed through "Jeopardy!" parent company Sony Pictures.

"It's not old yet," Gutin said of the Jeopardy! Bar League. "But it's starting to spread out to a few different cities."

With the bar league being an official "Jeopardy!" program, Bomba's league will feature Daily Doubles, actual clues from "Jeopardy!", and score leaderboards.

"They really have access to all the intellectual property for 'Jeopardy!'," Gutin said.

And it's very interactive, he said. "There's technology involved."

Participants play on a special Jeopardy! Bar League app and hosts — who are hired and trained by Geeks Who Drink rather than establishments hosting the games — play videos featuring clues on screen behind them, just like how an actual game appears on-screen.

"It's a sophisticated program," he said.

Gutin saw the Jeopardy! Bar League online and was looking for activities to host at the Newtown and Malvern (Main Line) Bomba locations.

"It just seemed to fit right in," he said.

His team reached out to Geeks Who Drink and obtained the license to host weekly Jeopardy! Bar League events at the two locations.

Competitors play in teams, and there's no fee to play. Gutin said the buy in is simply patronizing the bar and restaurant.

He expects the Bomba Jeopardy! Bar League to maybe start out slow, but to build in local popularity.

And, Gutin said "Jeopardy!" and Geeks Who Drink are working on providing a pathway for bar league competitors to tryout for the main TV show, but the details of that are still in the works.

Bomba offers lunch, dinner, weekend brunch, happy hour, and children’s menus, as well as tequila cocktails, rum drinks, and a wide variety of craft beers. Check out the menu online here.

Bomba ¡Tacos + Tequila! is located at the Village at Newtown, 2930 South Eagle Road, and at The Grove, 10 Liberty Boulevard in Malvern.
