North Hills School District Will Drop Indian Logo, Keep Indians Name

The Indian chief logo will be retired before the start of the 2023-24 school year.

ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA — In a compromise move, the North Hills School District will retire its Indian logo but keep the Indians name for its sports teams.

School directors approved the move Thursday in a 7-2 vote with Deanna Philpott and Elizabeth Nease voting against the measure.

The district will now work with a graphic artist to establish new district logos, establish
guidelines for acceptable graphic identification of the district and it athletic teams, and post those guidelines on the district website prior to the start of the 2023-24 school year.

Items throughout the district with the existing Indian chief logo, including signage and uniforms, will be replaced under the normal replacement cycle.

The resolution that was approved was drafted from community feedback from the district's
town hall held in June. The feedback included an online survey that allowed community members, including current students, and alumni to submit comments digitally.
