Are You Ready for Some Football?
Perkiomen Valley Vikings offer camp on June 19 for area youth.

The Perkiomen Valley Vikings are welcoming area youth to join them for a football night on Tuesday, June 19. From 5 to 9 p.m., the team will bring together its coaching staff to offer drills and instruction for those entering grades second to ninth. All campers will be separated into age-appropriate groups for instruction.
“All campers will receive a camp T-shirt, position-specific drills to improve football skills, and [be able to] learn from present and past Viking Football Players,” said camp director and head Perkiomen Valley football coach Scott Reed in the camp’s brochure. An application can be found at right.
Reed will be joined by assistant coach Jason Baile, assistant coach Tim Connolly, assistant coach Rob Heist, assistant coach Matt Young, former head coach Scott Fuhrman, ninth-grade coach Joe Yanulevich and Perkiomen Valley athletic trainer Tracey Hatch. Instruction will be offered for quarterbacks, running backs, offensive lineman, receivers, linebackers, defensive backs and defensive lineman.

“The camp will take place on the Perkiomen Valley High School Athletic [fields],” said Reed. “The camp will be held on the freshman football field, next to the tennis courts. Bathroom facilities will be available for campers in the stadium.”
Reed said in the camp’s informational packet that not much is required of players.

Campers should bring “shorts or sweat pants, and a T-shirt” and wear sneakers or cleats.
“Cleats are optional, but must be rubber,” said Reed.
Drinks should coming in plastic containers, but water will also be available.
Campers should wear “sunscreen, if susceptible to sunburn” and bring “no jewelry or valuables.” Other than that, they only need one simple thing.
“What to bring to youth night: a great team attitude,” said Reed.
The cost of the one-night camp is $35. Camp will begin at 5, with stretching through 5:30. Offensive skills and drills will run from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., with defense taking over the camp from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
At 7:30 the campers will be taking a break, while they snack on soft pretzels provided by camp. From 7:45 to 8:45 p.m., the campers will play in games of flag football. Pick-ups will begin at 8:45 to 9 p.m.
