Chimney Blockage Sparks Small Fire in Perkiomen Township
Home not severely damaged by incident.
Local fire companies responded to a home in the 900 block of Hamilton Road in after a nest in the top of the chimney caught fire, according to Perkiomen Fire Chief John Moran Jr. There were no reported injuries, and the residents will be back in their home this evening.
The homeowner tried to extinguish the fire, Moran said, and when crews arrived on the scene, the nest was “just embers.” Firefighters still checked the scene and made sure everything was clear, Moran said.
In order to prevent a similar incident, homeowners should “have their chimneys cleaned and inspected by a professional every year,” Moran said.
