Perkiomen Valley Library Wishes Dr. Seuss a Happy Birthday
Stories and literary-linked activities galore Saturday.
Families packed into the auditorium of the to celebrate Dr. Seuss' 107th birthday, Saturday. Born Theodor Geisel on March 2, "Seuss" gave the world some of the most beloved, and lasting, children's stories and characters including "The Cat in the Hat," "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," "Green Eggs and Ham" and "Horton Hears a Who."
The party kicked off with Aileen Johnson reading "The Cat in the Hat" to the assembled guests. Afterward, children and their parents could enjoy snacks and activities such as coloring, having whiskers painted on their faces and making their own paper versions of wearable Horton ears or a red-and-white striped hat. The eponymous Cat was also on hand for pictures, and many kids enjoyed playing with homemade Oobleck ("Bartholomew and the Oobleck"), a lavender-colored substance that seemed to simultaneously be liquid and gelantinous.
One of the more popular activities was the long strips of Bubble Wrap that children could hop on--inspired by "Hop on Pop."
